Laser Precision Receives National Youth Employer of the Year Award
The National Association of Workforce Development Professionals (NAWDP) announced today that Laser Precision has been named the 2023 Youth Employer of the Year. The organization will be recognized during an awards ceremony at NAWDP’s 2023 Youth Symposium on November 6, 2023, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“The Youth Employer of the Year award recognizes a private-sector employer or employer consortium who partners and collaborates with their local youth workforce professionals to develop unique employment programs for young people,” said Melissa Robbins, NAWDP’s Chief Executive Officer. “Laser Precision has created innovative internship and work programs that allow youth ranging from high school to college to learn a trade and find full-time employment shortly after graduation.”
Laser Precision, a metal cutting and fabrication company, discovered that many students in the education system do not know about the opportunities for worthwhile careers in the field of manufacturing. In response, they have created work programs and internships that build awareness and provide practical training on the job for candidates ranging from high school through college.
By utilizing a rotational schedule that allows high school students to be introduced to multiple aspects of manufacturing, Laser Precision has provided a pipeline of talent not only into their own company but many other manufacturing organizations as well. This work program exposes high school students to alternative career paths such as press brake operation, manual and robotic welding, powder coating, and more.
In addition to this work program, Laser Precision also offers a summer internship for college students with majors in Engineering or similar fields. It provides them with real-world experience both on their shop floor and in their Engineering lab. Similar to the high school program, it also works on a rotational basis to allow college students the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of fields while building their personal resumes with the practical skills they acquire during their internship.
