Illinois Department of Human Services, Division of Rehabilitation Services

Department of Human Services – Rehabilitation

The Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS) works in partnership with people with disabilities and their families to support their full community participation through employment, education, and independent living opportunities.

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

Department of Human Services – TANF

The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program provides temporary financial assistance for pregnant women and families with one or more dependent children, including help to pay for food, shelter, utilities, and other expenses.

Located within the Illinois Department of Human Services Division of Family and Community Services, TANF provides time-limited cash assistance, transitional services, and screenings. A person who receives TANF may also get medical assistance and SNAP benefits.

The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), authorized by the Older Americans Act, is a community service and work-based job training program providing training for low-income, unemployed seniors.

SCSEP participants gain work experience in a variety of community service activities at non-profit and public facilities, including schools, hospitals, day-care centers, and senior centers. Participants also have access to employment assistance through American Job Centers.

Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) is a non-profit organization committed to providing Lake County’s young people with education, certification programs, and career development to build skills for life through mentorship and empowerment.

In the majority of programs, YCC serves youth 16-24 years old who have dropped out of high school and face other challenges, such as being low income, homelessness, disabilities, and more. Through hands-on job skills training, GED courses, and other career readiness work, YCC empowers these young people to get back on track, gain self-worth, and develop lifelong skills to achieve their goals.
